Gram Niyozen Ashram is based in Aligarh district of Uttar Pradesh in India. Known for its lock industry, Aligarh has pockets where people live in abject poverty and deprivation. GNA primarily works with these deprived people.
GNA feels that appropriate social change may only be brought through participation of people, keeping in mind continued dynamism and transparency of development works.
One of the major interventions of GNA is among the weavers, who are passing through a critical phase in their lives because of increasing mechanisation. It has formed their cooperative to organise them and is extending training and marketing support to them. This intervention has brought back smile on the faces of weavers as their income has increased substantially.
